Bizen Foundation
The Bizen Foundation is a grassroots foundation arm of the DMOTC that has been serving the community in Maryland and adjacent areas in various needed areas for community growth. It was founded by individual volunteers who serve the community as members of the Debre Selam Medhane Alem Eritrean Orthodox Church. It was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2001 serving the Eritrean diaspora providing services to meet the Eritrean elders, youth, refugees, and the community surrounding the Church, towns of Colmar Manor and Cottage City, Maryland, in Prince George’s County.
Bizen Foundation has substantial volunteer experience in reaching the Diaspora Eritreans and in-need population within the church surroundings with the needed cultural and linguistic competency that mainstream agencies and non-profit organizations can not match. The volunteer services include but are not limited to, after-school youth computer training, sewing classes, language training for non-speakers, organizing self-help sessions for the elderly, vocational training workshops, and career planning and networking events.
