The Bizen Foundation, in collaboration with CAF, was pleased to present a workshop focused on empowering you with the tools and information necessary for successful tax preparation and financial planning. ‘Tax Preparation Tips: Mastering Finances for Your Future’ covered key strategies to maximize your returns and gain control of your financial well-being.
The overarching goal of this event was to reduce fear and anxiety within the community by providing accurate information and empowering individuals to assert their rights. It aims to create a safer and more informed environment for vulnerable community members.
After-School and Summer programming: The Foundation recruited and organized computer science college graduates and offered an introduction to software programming classes. Using 30 donated old laptops, the students were allowed to interact and begin learning programming languages in Python and progress through the different levels. Many of the students did not have personal laptops they could use for programming practice considered “standard” in many high schools today. Bizen Foundation plans to continue and expand this program to Cottonwood Manor and Cottage City residents in the coming years. While we have secured the necessary mentors and volunteers as well as the space required, we are still in need of more laptops for the expected increase in students. This proposal would, if successful, alleviate the anticipated computer and software shortage. We anticipate 60-70 students in need would join based on estimates of summer 2024 attendees.
Workshops and information exchange for Adults: Bizen Foundation organizes various workshops and community outreach events that target adult learners in the community who want to better themselves. Recently, the Foundation hosted an Electrical Apprenticeship and nursing programming workshops. Both events were well received and attended by the community of mostly immigrants. A critical need that was identified in these meetings and workshops is assistance in completing the various application forms. Bizen Foundation plans to recruit volunteers from its members and the surrounding community toassist the workshop attendees in completing the necessary forms.
Supporting Children with Special needs: Bizen Foundation in collaboration with the Eritrean-Ethiopian Special Needs Community( EESNC), has hosted multiple workshops and training sessions for parents of children with special needs. Parents with this training were able to navigate the diagnosis, school placement, and care of students with autism. We are also able to provide ongoing support to parents and children utilizing a volunteer health care team that includes a psychiatrist, nurses and special needs student educators.
In summary, our current facility has been adapted to serve diverse needs, positioning us well to expand our services with the proposed grant. Our volunteer base is expanding and we have the necessary understanding with the leadership of our neighborhood in Colmar Manor.
